basics of seo

In this basics to SEO 2024 Guide, we will be discussing the roadmap of how to learn SEO and become a successful SEO Expert.

First things first, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and when you need to learn Search Engine Optimization, there should be a roadmap for it. And I have a piece of good news for you, which is, I will be sharing the exact roadmap of SEO which is, if I have to start over to learn SEO then I would follow the same.

I will be sharing 7 points with you, which of course if you follow, you can become a knowledgeable SEO person who can understand the mechanism of Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.

1) Crawlers should have access to your website.
2) Content that solves the user’s queries. ( Search Intent )
3) Optimization of Keywords to attract the crawler and the users.
4) Best User experience as compared to other sites of your niche.
5) Content that is worthy of sharing – Backlinks, Citation, Quotations
6) Title, Meta description, URL which should have high CTR in SERPs.
7) Snippet / Schema Markups on every page possible.

But before diving into all of these concepts, there are some prerequisites for learning them, which is, you should have at least 3 things –

  1. Brain
  2. Website
  3. Data

You should have the first two of these three prerequisites, I think.
You need a website for practicing SEO and the most important data that you are going to have will come from your website itself.

Another important thing before we start to dive deep into the concepts of Search Engine Optimization is that you should have the following sources set up –

1) Basics of SEO – Install Analytics –

These Web Analytics tools give you all the data of who visits your website, when the user visited your website, for how long was the user active on your website, the location of the user, and many more things related to the user.

The most popular and used Analytics tool at present time is Google Analytics. The current updated version is known as GA4 which is Google Analytics 4. The previous version was known as Universal Analytics aka GA3 ( Google Analytics 3 ).

If you don’t want to use Google’s products, there are many alternatives to it as well in the market. Some of these are – Matomo, Statcounter, Plausible, Clicky, MixPanel, Heap, Woopra, etc.

2) Register your Website with Search Engines –

There are many Search Engines in this world but the most popularly used Search Engines are Google and Bing.

Your website should be registered with the search engine analytics services of both of these search engines.

Google has Google Search Console also known as GSC and Bing has Bing Webmaster Tools.

Be crystal clear, that registering your website with search engines doesn’t necessarily get you traffic/clicks, but without registering with the analytics services tools you are sure to not get traffic.

3) Basics of SEO – Crawl Your Website –

While this is not mandatory, I highly recommend that you should crawl your website. By Crawling your website, you can figure out basics SEO issues that may not be obvious to any human naked eye.
Also, you can see your website like any search engine see it.

There are many basics SEO audit tools which does this, you can use Moz Pro’s Site Crawl, Sitebulb, Screaming Frog, Ubersuggest, Ahrefs, Semrush, and many more.

4) Check your website’s indexing –

To become eligible for showing your website in the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs), all the pages that you want to rank must be indexed first.

This “indexing” of your pages will be done by Search Engines or more precisely Google’s Crawler/Spider/Bot will do the indexing.

Indexing your web page means that the search engine has visited your site and has recorded your site in its database.

Check site:URL –

The easiest and simplest way to check that your site is indexed or not is by typing the following prompt that I’m about to share with you in the Query Box – site:URL

For example – your domain name is Pixelhivematrix.com – best digital marketing agency in jaipur, for checking that your website is indexed or not, you should search site:pixelhivematrix.com
This will approximately tell you, how many pages of your website has been indexed by the search engines.

You can also check the individual pages indexing via the same technique –
site:URL/path

NOTE :

There are some cases in which Google or any other search engine does not index your website.

Case 1) If your website is brand new or recently made, then it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be indexed via Google/Bing or any other search engine.

Case 2) If you don’t post unique and valuable content, then it isn’t worthy of appearing in the Search Engines.
OR
If the content that your website has is spam, copied, plagiarised, AI (Artificial Intelligence) generated, etc. Then Google by default excludes this type of content which lacks originality and integrity.

Case 3) Is your website crawlable and/or indexable? – If your website isn’t crawlable and/or indexable then also Google wouldn’t rank it.
